The Best Food in Berlin

Clubrestaurant am Wannsee

Price: $$-$$$

Location:

Clubrestaurant am Wannsee, Berlin’s number one restaurant according to tripadvisor, offers classically prepared German meals with the most scenic view in Berlin. Located 11 miles outside of Berlin’s city center, Clubestaurant am Wannsee allows you to get out if downtown Berlin and see  the beautiful countryside that surrounds it. Be forewarned, it is a trek to get to this place. Forty-five minutes by combination of train and bus will get you to the mouth of a wooded pathway. You then must walk down this path (pictured below) for another 20 minutes before you are met with the stunning restaurant.

The restaurant campus appears more like a James Bond villain’s secret hideout than a restaurant but that only adds to its allure.

Once you finish taking pictures and gawking at the beauty of the restaurant you will be seated by the friendly wait staff on the patio looking across the Havel River. However, be ready to get out your German language skills because the restaurant is a local spot, so the staff may or may not be able to accommodate English. When you take your seat you will be given a menu filled with German classics. Heres a look:

Note that their online menu has less selections then their on site menu. For example, I had the Weiner Schnitzel which is not listed online but is a mainstay of the restaurant.

Clubrestaurant am Wannsee Recommendations:

I went with the Schnitzel. The breaded pork cutlet was an excellent combination of salty and crispy. When you add the fresh squeezed lemon on top, the dish really comes together. It is about as quintessential a German dish as you an find. I think the best way to describe the dish is to say it tasted exactly how you hope schnitzel would taste. It was crispy without being burnt, it was tender, and it had just the right amount of flavor to make you crave the next bite. The dish was brought together by the French fries which were also expertly fried. Crunchy on the outside and fluffy inside. Schnitzel with french fries is in no way a complex dish, but Clubrestaurant am Wannsee knows how to make the simple delicious by using the right ingredients and cooking techniques.

After you finish your meal be sure to take some time to explore the dock that lies just beyond the restuarant. There you can catch stunning views of the mountains, water, and dozens of sail boats. It is truly one of the most picturesque areas in all of Berlin. Just be prepared for your long walk back to civilization! For more about Berlin, click here

I love schnitzel and ordered every chance I got in Austria. Did this restaurant play music?

You are having quite an adventure and the pictures are lovely.

We dodged hurricane Michael but the destination is hard to look at. People’s memories are in small pieces. Guess that is why we practice not holding onto “things.”

    Take care.

It did not play music but the sound of the river not to far away made for some pleasant white noise!

Glad to hear hurricane Michael missed you. Hopefully these posts will act as a way to keep memories fresh.

      Best.
